Deepening Your Fiction with Crystal Wilkinson 

Whether you are at work on stories or a novel, in this course we will heighten our artistic abilities by examining spirit, soul, shadow, light, intuition, attention, feeling, narrative, memory and witness. We will also deepen our practice of craft by focusing on analyzing the craft of innovative published writers and strengthening our own fiction though keen attention to scene, voice, dramatic weight and sense of place. During the course your individual needs will be met based on your experience but you will be pushed to your next best level.

CRYSTAL WILKINSON, winner of the 2016 Ernest Gaines Award for Literary Excellence, has taught in the MFA programs of Spalding University and Indiana University and currently serves as Appalachian Writer in Residence at Berea College She is the author of The Birds of Opulence, Water Street and Blackberries, Blackberries. Nominated for both the Orange Prize and the Hurston/Wright Legacy Award, she has received recognition from The Kentucky Foundation for Women, The Kentucky Arts Council, The Mary Anderson Center for the Arts, The Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown and is a recipient of the Chaffin Award for Appalachian Literature. She has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize and her short stories, poems and essays have appeared in numerous journals and anthologies including most recently in the Oxford American.  She had her partner, poet and artist Ron Davis, own Wild Fig Books & Coffee which is located in the North Limestone neighborhood in Lexington.
